New Delhi – In a decisive move to bolster flood relief operations across the nation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has authorized the advance release of a staggering Rs 2,117.85 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). This vital SDRF aid is earmarked for seven states ravaged by the relentless southwest monsoon, aiming to significantly strengthen their capacity for relief, rescue, and rehabilitation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs confirms its unyielding vigilance over the escalating flood crisis. From the monsoon’s very onset, the Centre has worked hand-in-glove with state administrations, deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams preemptively and offering essential logistical backing from the Ministry of Defence wherever the need arose. To meticulously gauge the extent of the damage inflicted, Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have already been dispatched. Furthermore, an IMCT is presently being constituted for Nagaland, following a direct request from the state government, emphasizing a tailored response to regional exigencies.
States to Benefit from SDRF Aid
The substantial financial package extends its reach to Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Nagaland. While Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Nagaland had previously received their initial Central share of SDRF aid for the fiscal year 2026-27, Minister Shah’s latest approval ensures the early release of the second installment for Himachal Pradesh and Odisha, guaranteeing an uninterrupted flow of resources for ongoing relief efforts.
Recognizing the immediate urgency for funds, the government has also streamlined bureaucratic hurdles, relaxing documentation requirements to facilitate the advance release of the first installment of the Central share of SDRF for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. This swift action reflects a clear commitment to providing timely assistance when it is most critically needed. The approved allocations include Rs 44.55 crore for Arunachal Pradesh, Rs 379.35 crore for Assam, Rs 500 crore for Gujarat, Rs 193.95 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Rs 500 crore for Maharashtra, and Rs 500 crore for Odisha.
