AYODHYA – In a pivotal moment for one of India’s most significant religious bodies, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has announced a critical leadership change. Bajrang Bagra, currently the International General Secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), has been unanimously appointed as the new General Secretary. He steps into the role previously held by Champat Rai, whose resignation was formally accepted amidst swirling allegations of financial irregularities concerning temple donations.
Who is Bajrang Bagra?
The decision, made during a high-stakes meeting in Ayodhya, signals a clear intent to fortify the Trust’s governance. Bagra’s appointment comes at a time when the sacred institution faces intense scrutiny, with police and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) actively probing the alleged embezzlement of funds. Such a backdrop necessitates a leader with a sterling reputation and profound administrative acumen.
Bajrang Bagra is no stranger to large-scale organizational management. With a distinguished career spanning both the corporate world and key positions within the VHP, he brings a formidable blend of experience. A Chartered Accountant by profession, Bagra hails from Rajasthan’s Sikar district, where his journey towards leadership began. His active involvement with the VHP intensified after he opted for voluntary retirement from a high-profile public sector role, quickly ascending through its ranks, including serving as Joint General Secretary and President and CEO of Ekal Abhiyan.
Before dedicating himself full-time to the VHP, Bagra enjoyed an illustrious career in the public sector. He notably served as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a major public sector enterprise under the Union Ministry of Mines. His tenure at NALCO, along with previous roles as Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer at both NALCO and RITES Ltd., equipped him with extensive expertise in corporate governance and intricate financial management. This deep understanding of fiscal operations is precisely what the Ram Mandir Trust requires as it navigates its next phase.
Sources indicate that the selection of Bajrang Bagra reflects a concerted effort to imbue the Trust with renewed transparency and robust financial oversight. His reputation within the VHP for articulating the organization’s stances on vital issues – from Hindu society and religious affairs to population dynamics and conversions – underscores his comprehensive engagement with community matters. This blend of strong administrative prowess and deep ideological commitment positions Bajrang Bagra as a pivotal figure in guiding the Ram Mandir Trust forward, especially as it grapples with public expectations and ongoing investigations into its financial stewardship.
