PENTICTON, B.C. — Over a year after a horrific incident shattered a popular cycling event, authorities have finally announced an arrest in connection with the deadly Okanagan Granfondo Crash. The Penticton RCMP confirmed Monday evening that a man faces charges following the collision that claimed one life and severely injured two other cyclists.
The tragic event unfolded on July 13, 2025, just after noon. Emergency services responded to a serious motor vehicle incident on White Lake Road, a stretch of highway integral to the Granfondo route. Mounties swiftly confirmed that participants in the highly anticipated race were involved in the devastating collision.
Jonathan Crant has been identified as the individual arrested. He now stands charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, alongside two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm. The charges come after an extensive, year-long investigation during which officers painstakingly collected and analyzed a substantial body of evidence before forwarding recommendations to British Columbia’s Crown counsel.

Staff Sgt. Scott Hanry, reflecting on the arduous process, stated, “This has been a complex investigation requiring significant investigative efforts to collect, analyze and assess evidence.” He acknowledged the profound impact the incident had on the local community, extending thoughts to all families and individuals affected by the tragedy.
The devastating Okanagan Granfondo Crash also cast a long shadow over the future of the beloved cycling event. Organizers, OG Events Ltd., which had steered the Granfondo since 2011, ultimately announced last fall that the 2025 ride would be its last. The decision marked a “pivotal moment,” as they reportedly shifted focus to new opportunities within the Okanagan cycling sphere, effectively ending a fixture in the region’s sports calendar.
During its storied run from 2011 to 2025, the Granfondo attracted more than 25,000 cyclists to Penticton, B.C. Beyond its economic contributions, the event championed various causes, notably supporting youth cycling development and critical desmoid tumour research. OG Events Ltd. expressed deep gratitude to the legions of participants, sponsors, volunteers, and the City of Penticton for their unwavering support throughout the event’s history.
