Hamilton, ON – A spectacular performance from quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell propelled the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to a resounding 41-27 victory over the B.C. Lions on Friday night. In a thrilling contest at Hamilton Stadium, Mitchell equaled his career-best with five touchdown passes, delighting the 20,402 fans in attendance and securing the Ticats’ first home win against the Lions in four attempts.
Bo Levi Mitchell’s Masterclass Performance
Mitchell was nothing short of brilliant, carving up the Lions’ defense with precision and poise. He completed an astonishing 15 of 18 passes for 285 yards, orchestrating a high-octane offense that proved too much for the visitors. The veteran signal-caller connected with Max Mang for two scores, and also found Kiondre Smith, Jake Dolegala, and Kenny Lawler in the end zone, showcasing a versatile attack that kept B.C. on its heels.
Conversely, the B.C. Lions, featuring last year’s CFL outstanding player Nathan Rourke, faced a challenging night. Rourke completed 24 of 35 passes for 291 yards, tossing one touchdown and one interception, while enduring three sacks. His efforts were hampered by a severely short-handed receiving corps; key veterans Keon Hatcher Sr. (thigh), Stanley Berryhill III (thigh), Seven McGee (foot), and Canadian Jevon Cottoy (thigh) were all sidelined, forcing rookie receivers Jaden Williams and Canadian Nick Cenacle into starting roles. This marked the first time since 2019 that the Lions have opened a season with two consecutive losses.
The Tiger-Cats established an early lead and never looked back, heading into halftime with a comfortable 27-9 advantage. Mitchell’s exceptional play continued into the second half, with his fifth touchdown pass of the night—a 24-yard strike to Kurleigh Gittens Jr.—pushing Hamilton’s lead to 41-12 early in the fourth quarter. Despite a late rally by the Lions, which saw Rourke and backup Chase Brice connect with Cenacle for two touchdowns, the deficit proved insurmountable. The Hamilton defense made crucial stops, including an interception by Stavros Katsantonis that led directly to one of the Ticats’ first-half scores. Special teams contributed as well, with Marc Liegghio adding five converts for Hamilton. B.C.’s Sean Whyte battled valiantly, kicking four field goals and two converts, but his team’s offensive struggles and defensive lapses against a red-hot Bo Levi Mitchell ultimately sealed their fate.
