GENEVA – A thrilling display of skill and unwavering determination culminated in a bronze medal for Canada at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. The formidable married duo, Kadriana and Colton Lott from Gimli, Manitoba, delivered a dominant performance, besting Italy’s Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner with an emphatic 11-3 victory on Saturday.
This triumph marks Canada’s first medal in the demanding world mixed doubles curling competition since 2019, signifying a potent return to the international podium. For Colton Lott, an accomplished athlete who secured a silver medal last month at the men’s worlds playing third for Team Matt Dunstone, this latest accolade further burnishes his stellar 2025-26 season. Kadriana Lott, celebrating her inaugural career world medal, expressed profound joy: “To share this together, to go on world stages to different parts of the world, it’s something we want to continue, and we’ll cherish these moments forever throughout our lives.” She added, “Just super proud of us, and I’m happy to have that medal around our necks and happy to be standing at the podium at the end of this week.”
Dominant Play Secures Mixed Doubles Curling Glory
Despite a semifinal setback against Sweden, the Canadian pair exhibited exceptional efficiency, capitalizing on nearly every scoring opportunity presented. Their offensive onslaught included two crucial four-enders and a pivotal three-ender. Canada’s remarkable 89 per cent shooting accuracy starkly contrasted Italy’s 65 per cent, laying the groundwork for their decisive win. An early miscue by the Italian side in the very first end proved costly, allowing Canada to seize a commanding four-point lead through a precise tap around a guard.
“It gives us all the momentum going forward, right from the get-go,” remarked Colton Lott, highlighting the psychological advantage gained. “Especially after that first end, we could really tell that they weren’t quite on their game, and as long as we kept applying pressure, tried to make them make really precise shots, we were going to get mistakes, and for the most part, we capitalized on that and just kept bending all the way through.” The contest’s fate was ultimately sealed in the sixth end when Canada expertly utilized its power play, drawing for another four points. This left the Italians with no viable path to victory, leading them to concede the final two ends of the match.
In the gold-medal showdown, Australia’s Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt emerged victorious, defeating Sweden’s Therese Westman and Robin Ahlberg 8-4. For more insights into international curling events and championship results, visit the official World Curling Federation website.
