A desperate plea for justice echoes from Bhopal as Navnidhi Sharma, the distraught father of Twisha Sharma, whose life ended tragically last week, has formally demanded a second post-mortem examination for his daughter at AIIMS-Delhi. He asserts with unwavering conviction that the initial post-mortem report starkly contradicts the available evidence, fueling his profound suspicion of murder rather than suicide.
Twisha, an ex-Miss Pune, was discovered hanging on May 12 at the Katara Hills residence of her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh. Her death, initially reported as a hanging, has now become the epicenter of a harrowing family dispute, marred by explosive allegations and a desperate search for truth.
Mounting Pressure for a Second Post-Mortem
Mr. Sharma did not mince words when addressing the accusations of drug addiction leveled against his late daughter. “If any drug-related case is to be made, it should be against their own son,” he declared, referring to his son-in-law, Samarth Singh. “The whole world knows he is a major drug addict. I strongly suspect this was murder.” This dramatic counter-allegation has cast a dark shadow over the ongoing investigation, adding layers of complexity to an already tragic situation. He vehemently opposes the anticipatory bail sought by both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh, who are currently booked under the stringent provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. The father’s conviction that complex social issues are at play here is evident.
The provisional post-mortem report, while indicating antemortem hanging as the cause of death, also disturbingly flagged multiple antemortem blunt force injuries scattered across Twisha’s body. This critical discrepancy is precisely why Mr. Sharma insists on a rigorous second post-mortem, hoping it will unveil the full extent of the trauma his daughter endured. “The PM report and evidence do not match,” he stated, a tremor in his voice. “We want the government to take cognizance.”
Sharma claims Samarth’s family wields “immense influence,” describing them as “high profile” with an extensive network spanning high-ranking government positions. He voiced his profound despair, stating he has “lost any hope for justice” in the face of what he perceives as a biased system. The family alleges receiving constant threats via phone calls and messages, living in palpable fear for their own lives. Even local police, according to Sharma, appear to be favoring the accused due to their societal standing.
Following Twisha’s untimely demise, the Katara Hills Police Station initiated a First Information Report (FIR) on May 15, naming both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh as primary accused. The police records detail persistent allegations of dowry harassment, mental cruelty, and physical torture inflicted upon Twisha since her marriage on December 9, 2025. Samarth Singh remains at large, prompting authorities to announce a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to his arrest. Furthermore, efforts are underway to secure the cancellation of his passport, a move underscoring the seriousness of the charges. The demand for a second post-mortem underscores the family’s deep mistrust in the initial findings and their unwavering quest for transparency.
